Owlets on Kennedy (for children aged 2 & over)
We are a locally owned and operated early childhood centre located in the heart of our small town. We offer a holistic based curriculum and various open-ended resources that stimulate and promote free play and exploration for our tamariki. We utilise our whanau and local community members to teach our tamariki about other aspects of life and how they work to help others. We are very much a community-oriented centre and love taking our tamariki for walks and exploring what Putaruru has to offer. We provide an outside environment where tamariki learn the importance of protecting and nurturing natural environment through taking care of our health and well-being.
Our programme will prepare tamariki for their transition to school by providing play and learning experiences which support them in developing early academic, social, and self-management skills. Also, our planning is based on children’s interests and the strengths, learning and development of each child. “Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti arahia o tatou mahi. Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work.”
We believe that our relationships with tamariki should be based on respect and trust. Our passionate and dedicated teachers will take the time to develop respectful responsive relationships with all children and their whanau. Within the centre programme we incorporate the Principles, Strands and Goals of Te Whariki. “Children should grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit. Secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.”
We acknowledge Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand and are committed to embracing our bi-cultural heritage. We will endeavour to learn more about local maori heritage and the stories of Putaruru.
We are also interested in learning about all the diverse cultures within our community and welcome new knowledge and understanding.
